Santa Tecla - Chalchuapa 119-62

Santa Tecla cruised past Chalchuapa in the opener. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 86 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 50. Santa Tecla forced 28 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 55-32 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santa Tecla players were unselfish on offense dishing 34 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. Puerto Rican forward Owens Perez (203-92) nailed 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winning side and guard Brian Vasquez (190) accounted for 14 points and 6 assists. Five Santa Tecla players scored in double figures. American guard Chad Fortenberry-Miller (201-91, college: MacMurray) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds and the other American import forward Jose Ortiz (190-90, college: DelVal) added 24 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Chalchuapa in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

Cojute held off Aguila to secure 1-0 lead. Cojute looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American swingman Andravious Smith (196-95, college: Tougaloo) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import Shahmel Brackett (183-91, college: UNCP) chipped in 19 points and 9 assists. At the losing side Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 17 rebounds and Lee Vasquez (177-91) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.

They outrebounded Fantasmas 53-39 including 20 on the offensive glass. Santa Ana players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by Fantasmas' players. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks.
