Santa Tecla - Chalchuapa 119-62

Santa Tecla cruised past Chalchuapa in the opener. Santa Tecla dominated down low during the game scoring 86 of its points in the paint compared to Chalchuapa's 50. Santa Tecla forced 28 Chalchuapa turnovers and outrebounded them 55-32 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Santa Tecla players were unselfish on offense dishing 34 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Chalchuapa's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. American swingman Andravious Smith (196-95, college: Tougaloo) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and his fellow American import Shahmel Brackett (183-91, college: UNCP) chipped in 19 points and 9 assists. At the losing side Cuban Oreste Torres (204-87) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 17 rebounds and Lee Vasquez (177-91) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures.
